Searching with Similar Descriptions

Using our 'Description is similar to...' criteria

Updated this week

Searching with Similar Descriptions allows you to find other companies which are similar to a specific example. This allows you to very quickly identify multiple companies in a particular niche, or identify immediate competitors.

The technology behind this feature is an extension of our 'Similar Companies' tab on Company Profile Pages, more information on which can be found here!

How?

Using "Description is similar to: A company named..."

Head to Advanced Search, and then 'add company criteria' before clicking on 'what the company does' and selecting 'description is similar to':

You can then start typing the name of the company, and a list of matches will come up and allow you to select the one you want:

This will then bring up a list of companies where the description is similar to that of Monzo:

Note: This will only return companies which are similar based on their description - it will not search for similarity based on e.g. Headcount, Location, Funding stage etc. To do this, simply layer in additional criteria to refine your results!

Using "Description is similar to: A description like..."

In addition to searching for a description similar to 'a company named', you can also search for descriptions that are similar to any description you wish to write/copy from elsewhere. using 'description is similar to a description like...':

You can then input any description you are looking for, and our machine-learning algorithm will return a list of results!

Note: When using 'a description like' and inputting your own description, the algorithm will return the best results when you write in full prose, rather than simply inputting a series of key words. To search over keywords, try our regular 'Description' criteria.
