What are WZ codes?
Updated over 2 months ago

WZ codes (developed in 2008) are the German system for classifying industries and economic activities. Similarly to UK SIC codes, they categorise businesses into different sectors based on their primary activities, allowing for the systematic collection and comparison of economic data.

While WZ codes are specific to Germany, they are aligned with the NACE (Nomenclature of Economic Activities) classification used across the EU. The list of WZ codes and SIC codes are very similar, however WZ codes have an additional level of granularity.

A full list of WZ codes is available here.
