Where does our data come from?

Our data comes from three types of source, brought together and verified by our Data team. We pull from primary sources, cross-reference them, and then verify.

Our sources

  1. Regulatory / registry data: Sourced directly from Companies House in the UK, the German Handelsregister/Bundesanzeiger and the Companies Registration Office in Ireland. This covers company filings, directors, shareholders, financials, charges and more. This is near real-time and covers every company in each market.

  2. Public information: Websites, press releases, social media and other public-domain sources, which our Data team monitors and mines for signals a filing alone wouldn't show.

  3. Specialist feeds: HMRC (import/export trade data), the European Patent Office (granted patents) and Innovate UK (grants) are just some examples. Each feeds a specific dataset with its own refresh cycle.

Our method

The real value comes from combining these sources rather than relying on any one of them. Our Data team cross-references filings, public information and feeds to spot things that wouldn't be visible from a single source - for example, unannounced fundraisings and acquisitions, which we surface by spotting filings (like share allotments) that hint at a deal, then investigating and confirming the details manually. This is why we can show around 60% of UK fundraisings and around 40% of UK acquisitions that never appeared in the press.

We also combine curated and ML-led approaches for datasets like key people, company descriptions and industry classification - and even where a feed is well-structured, our Data team adds layers of manual research on top.
